Details of Disappearance
Alicia was last seen in Blairsville, Pennsylvania on April 26th 1987. She was last seen leaving her fathers home in the 100 block of Dunn Avenue. She left following an argument she had with her father. Her father stated he yelled out to Alicia after she left and told her to be back home by 8:00 pm. He assumed she was going to a friends house. She was carrying a pair of purple sunglasses at the time.
Alicia was reported missing by her father the next day when she didn’t return. She has not been seen or heard from since. Alicia’s parents were divorced at the time and her mother had sole custody of her. She was visiting her father at the time of her disappearance.
Alicia’s disappearance was initially treated as that of a runaway disappearance and some investigators still theorize she did in fact leave on her own accord. Some investigators also believe she did not have any intention of leaving and rather met with foul play when she disappeared. There is speculation that she might have hitched a ride with someone after she left.
She wasn’t street smart and wouldn’t have survived for long if she left so her mother does not believe she ran off. She believes her daughter was murdered and has named someone as Alicia’s killer. The person has not been named as a suspect in the case. While investigators have no strong suspects in her case, they have not ruled anyone they’ve considered out.
In October of 2000, an anonymous letter was sent to Alicia’s father and it detailed her alleged murder and the location of her body. The person in the letter claimed to have killed Alicia and that her body would be found buried along the Conemaugh River just outside of Blairsville.
The letter was mailed from Bedford, New Hampshire and investigators were able to find the return address. The people who the address belonged too said they were never aware of Blairsville, Pennsylvania or Alicia’s disappearance. They also dug along the River but did not find her body. The letter is believed to be a hoax.
At the time of her disappearance, Alicia was a freshman at Windber High School. She was described as a good student and she had recently joined the track team. There’s been no activity on her social security number or bank account since 1987. Foul play is possible in Markovich’s case which remains unsolved.
