Details of Disappearance
Nancy Wilcox was last seen on October 2nd 1974 in Holladay, Utah. She was leaving her family’s home on Arnett Drive and may have been going to the Olympus high school where she was a student. She may have been going there because her boyfriend at the time was a football player there and may have been on campus or on the school track.
Nancy never made it to the school and never made it back home and was never seen or heard from again. Authorities initially believed that Nancy had runaway but Nancy would be the 1st of a series of young women to disappear and then found deceased.
Nancy is believed to have been abducted and murdered on the day of her disappearance. On January 22nd 1989, Ted Bundy confessed to killing her.
Bundy claimed that he spotted Wilcox walking on the side of a street near a main road and abducted her by force. He stated that he took Wilcox to his apartment where he kept her for a day. After that he said he sexually assaulted and killed her in an orchard. He stated that he buried her body in the vicinity Capitol Reef Nation Park, this was located over 200 miles away from the area of her abduction.
Authorities did search the region but did not find Nancy’s remains. Bundy was executed 2 days after he confessed to Nancy’s murder. He is believed to have been involved in others disappearances such as Georgeann Hawkins, Nancy Baird, Denise Oliverson, Lynette Culver, Donna Manson, Rita Jolly, Susan Curtis, and Vicki Hollar. He was also questioned in the 1974 case of Laurie Partridge but is not considered a suspect in the case.
One of the other girls to disappear was Debra Jean Kent. She vanished from Bountiful, Utah on November 8th 1974. Bundy also confessed to her abduction and murder and gave authorities the location of her remains. They found Debras patella bone in 1989 when they searched the area for her remains. It was not identified until 2015.
At the time of Nancy’s disappearance, she was a junior at Olympus High school and was very nice and everyone in her school liked her. Her family describes her as a very pretty and funny girl. She worked at a small coffee shop near her home but was fired prior to her disappearance.
Nancy’s case remains open and unsolved. Foul play is strongly suspected in her disappearance. Many agencies state that she was last seen leaving the high school to get a pack of gum.
