Details of Disappearance

Carla was last seen in Clearwater, Washington on July 1st 1981. She left her family’s residence in Kalaloch, Washington to babysit an infant child in a home 10 miles away. She left the home with the woman whose child she was babysitting. They were driven in a pickup truck by Kenneth Barry who was a transient logger at the time.

The woman left Carla and the baby at the home and when she returned to the home later that evening, Carla was gone. The child she was watching was found unharmed and asleep on the couch. The baby had been left uncared for, for quite a bit of time.

Investigators believe that Carla was the victim of a violent abduction. There were large bloodstains on the living room floor and there were also pieces of a broken Galliano bottle which was spattered in blood. There wasn’t enough blood to determine whether the injuries auditioned were fatal or serious.

Police also searched Kenneth Barry’s truck and found bloodstains and broken glass from a Galliano bottle inside the vehicle. Despite the blood being found, investigators have been unable to utilize DNA technology to identify the blood as belonging to her. The blood samples her parents provided have since been lost.

The blood did match her blood type, however. Barry is considered a suspect in her abduction but he was never charged with her disappearance and he died of a heart attack a few years after she disappeared.

At the time of her disappearance, Carla lived with her two parents and her brother and sister. Her parents have both since passed away and so has her brother. Her sister is still alive. Her abduction remains unsolved.
