Details of Disappearance

Tiahease was last seen in Staten Island, New York on August 14th 1983. She was last seen leaving the Mariners Harbor Motel on Forest Avenue to go an purchase a pack of chicken wings for another resident of the motel. She was going to the Crown Supermarket in the 900 block of Richmond Avenue.

She left at 1:30 pm while her mother slept. She never returned to the motel and was never seen or heard from again. She was reported missing at 4:30 pm after her mother woke up and found that she was nowhere in the room. Her mother and uncle both passed lie detector tests in the initial stages of the investigation and were cleared.

A mentally incompetent predator known as Andre Rand is the prime suspect in Jackson’s presumed abduction. In 1987, Rand abducted and murdered 12 year old Jennifer Schweiger of Staten Island. Her body was found near Rand’s former campsite. The campsite was less then half a mile away from Tiahease’s home. Rand was not convicted of killing Jennifer but was convicted of her abduction.

Tiahease’s mother also stated she had seen a man matching Rand’s description in the motel parking lot before her disappearance.

Rand is considered a possible suspect in the 1972 disappearance of Alice Pereira, the 1977 disappearance of Audrey Nerenberg, the 1978 disappearance of Ethel Atwell, and the 1984 disappearance of Henry Gafforio. In 2004, Rand was convicted of kidnapping Holly Hughes who disappeared in 1981. She remains missing.

Investigators believe that Rand might have been involved in several other missing persons cases in the Staten Island area but there’s no evidence that implicated him in any of them.

At the time of her disappearance, Tiahease and her family had moved to the motel after they were burned out of their apartment. They had plans of moving to the southern area of the United States. She was described as street smart and was aware of predators and knew not to trust strangers. She frequently went on errands in the city and sometimes went with her sister and her sisters friend.

Tiahease’s disappearance remains unsolved.
