Details of Disappearance

Gary was last seen in Charleston, South Carolina on September 6th 1974. He was last seen at approximately 11:00 am as he walked home from a friends home. He was seen walking down Remount Road in the Charleston Farm Community. His friend said he saw Gary walking to a fast food joint and he paused to look down the street. The friend went into his home.

He never arrived at his home and was never seen or heard from again. Thunderstorms struck the area that night. His belongings were all left behind even his wallet. Authorities do not believe he ran away from home.

Locals have stated that it’s been considered that serial killer Donald Gaskins may have been involved in Gary’s disappearance. Gaskin claimed to have as many as 110 victims in total. Since he lived in the area and was active as a serial killer at the time of Locklear’s disappearance, speculation has arisen that he was involved. He was arrested in 1975. He has not been officially linked to Gary’s disappearance.

Gary was described as an average teenaged boy. He got along well with both his parents and had just recently joined the junior varsity football team. He was to receive a motorcycle for his birthday which was the day after he disappeared. He would have turned 16 years of age. He had a good home life but was experiencing some normal teenage problems at the time. He may have felt under prioritized by his parents as he was one of seven children.

Gary’s disappearance remains unsolved.
