Details of Disappearance
Michael Mayfield was last seen with his sister, Pamela, on January 10th 1985 in Houston, Texas. The two were last seen as they walked home from Betsy Ross Elementary School in the 2900 block of Bay Street at the Eastex Freeway. Witnesses reported that they had seen the two children getting into a green vehicle being driven by an unidentified man. They have never been seen again.
In May of 1985, an unidentified male called the Houston police and stated that the children were never abducted at all and were actually living with their grandmother in Los Angeles, California. The location he gave was 75 street.
While the children have relatives that live in Los Angeles, they did not have the children and did not know their whereabouts. The unidentified male on the phone sounded as if he could be an African American male in his elderly ages. He has still not been identified.
Both children were kindergarteners at the time of their disappearance. Michael was repeating the year and Pamela was a beginner in kindergarten. They were loved by their family and not mistreated. They primarily lived with their maternal grandmother in the 3500 block of Des Chaumes Street in Houston at the time. They visited their parents who were separated at the time.
Michael and Pamela’s disappearance remains unsolved. Authorities suspect they were the victims of an abduction at the hands of someone they knew. Investigators and the family hope the children are still alive.
