Details of Disappearance

Aundria Bowman was last seen in Hamilton, Michigan on March 11th 1989. Her adoptive father, Dennis Lee Bowman, stated that Aundria had runaway from home and stole $100 before leaving.

Her adoptive mother, Brenda Bowman, would contact police constantly to tell them someone had seen Aundria in the City of Holland. In theses sightings, Brenda said Aundria’s hair was dyed blonde and she was noticeably pregnant. None of these sightings have ever been confirmed.

Some agencies stated that Aundria was in a youth home at the time of her disappearance and ran away from there. This information has been proven incorrect by investigators who have worked on her case.

Aundria was somewhat troubled at the time of her disappearance. In the fall of 1988, she started to refuse to return home from school. The staff at the school notified police and she told them that Dennis had sexually and physically abused her and molested her.

A truant officer and a social worker confronted the family with the allegations but Dennis and the family denied them and said that it was likely that she was saying this because she recently found out she was adopted. This is false, however, because Aundria was well aware that she had been adopted since she was an infant and would not have been upset over this at the time.

Dennis attempted to abduct a teenaged girl in 1980 so he could rape her. He was released from prison in 1986. Shortly after the abuse allegations, Dennis moved the family to a rural trailer. Aundria disappeared soon after the move and her allegations and has never been seen or heard from since.

Dennis has not cooperated in the case and his statements regarding Aundria running away are inconsistent. Investigators believe he knows more about what happened to his adoptive daughter then what he let on.

On November 22nd 2019, Dennis was arrested and charged with the Virginia 1980 slaying of Kathleen O’Brian Doyle. She was 25 years old when she was found murdered in her Norfolk, Virginia home on September 11th 1980. Her murder remained unsolved for nearly 40 years until his arrest. He is going on trial in April of 2020.

After his arrest, Aundria’s biological mother, Cathy Terkanian, made news media appearances and has been pushing for answers in her daughters decades old case since 2010. She only found out about her daughters disappearance when she was contacted by law enforcement at that time for a DNA sample. She was unable to find out what became of her daughter after the adoption due to adoption privacy laws and Aundria’s adoption was a closed adoption.

In January of 2020, Dennis confessed to killing Aundria in 1989. Dennis will not be charged with Aundria’s murder until he faces trial in Kathleen’s murder.

He confessed to Aundria’s murder in order to stall his extradition from Michigan to Virginia for Doyle’s murder. Investigators are searching his former property in Michigan in 136th Avenue for Aundria’s remains. It has been announced that human skeletal remains were found on the property and DNA analysis is being done to confirm the identity of them.

Aundria was originally born in New Orleans, Louisiana and her birth name is Alexis Miranda Badger. She was put up for adoption at age 5 months. She was adopted by the Bowman’s when she was 21 months old. She was said to have been bullied and teased in high school and her family at the time had a reputation for being strange.

Foul play is suspected in Aundria’s disappearance. Some agencies list her as an endangered runaway and state she disappeared from Holland, Michigan.
